Last year the City of Edinburgh Council approved a proposal by Councillor Steve Burgess to link parking charges with car pollution.

There will now be a sliding scale of charges for residents parking permits according to the amount of carbon dioxide their vehicle produces.

The scheme has my full support. It is a ground-breaking initiative to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and encourage residents to choose less polluting means of travel.
